San Francisco Suicide Prevention

Everyone can feel depressed at times. This is normal. Feeling depressed or angry can be natural reactions to some of life’s challenges.  For some, these feelings can grow to feelings of suicide or hurting yourself, but you do not have to struggle alone. We are always available to give you support, strength, and hope. Our services are also here for caregivers or people who are concerned about a suicidal or depressed loved one.

Founded in 1962, the mission of San Francisco Suicide Prevention is to provide emotional support, education, assistance and intervention as necessary to all persons in crisis and those impacted by them, with the goal of reducing suicides and self-destructive behaviors. Originally built on a crisis management model developed by the Samaritans Centers in Great Britain and Europe,  over 500 other crisis centers across the United States now utilize the same concept. Over time, the agency has grown to include a training of 3,500 total volunteers, and the total number of calls answered now exceeds 1,000,000.
