Located in the Bayview neighborhood, the mission of the Homeless Children’s Network is to decrease the trauma of homelessness and domestic violence for children, youth and families; to empower families; and to increase the effectiveness of collaborative efforts among service providers to end homelessness and poverty. In addition to behavioral health and early childhood mental health services, the organization also provides youth leadership programs, collaborative community training and a dedicated Resource Center. This bright, open space with cozy couches also offers child-sized tables and chairs, neatly presented toys and games, and an enormous teddy bear to help children recognize this is a space especially for them. The HCN also provides some basic needs, services and support – especially around the holidays. This support may take many forms, including gifts for children, clothing, gift cards or holiday cards, school supplies and links to family support resources.
